Unexpectedly short.

I obtained this from Netgalley and didn’t realise until I opened my copy just how short this novel is. It’s not a story in its own right – in fact it stops halfway through a scene. I quite like serials (take Tolkien for instance) but this novella doesn’t appear to end in a logical place. It just ends, very abruptly.

Up until that point I was quite enjoying it. A lot of characters were introduced in a short space of time, which took me a while to get straight but once I did, individuals began to come alive for me, and I became invested in the story.

All in all, I probably won’t bother with the next in the series – each individual book is too short for my taste and I can’t see why they can’t simply be combined into one full-length novel.
