Don't Tell Penny by Anna Bell

Blurb

Lou and Penny have been best friends forever, so when Penny tells Lou she's sure tonight's the night fiancé Mark will finally propose, Lou couldn't be more pleased for her. But when the moment arrives, Lou can't help but wonder if marriage might be the furthest thing from Mark's mind, and Penny hasn't noticed a thing! Could it fall on Lou to break the news gently, or will Mark bend his knee before it's just too late?

Review

It wasn't until.I finished reading this that I realised it was written by Anna Bell, the same author as The Good Girlfriend's Guide to Getting Even, that I had just read and enjoyed. This short story had been on my Kindle for several months and in an effort to reduce my TBR I thought it about time I read it. What a coincidence!

I'm not sure what to make of this exceptionally short read. It seemed as if it should have been one chapter out of a complete novel, but it is meant as a stand alone short story. Nothing much happens in it, it doesn't go anywhere, and none of the characters appealed to me. It may well be my fault for expecting more from a short story, but if I hadn't already seen what Ms Bell can do, then this would not have endeared me to her writing and I would certainly not have read anything else by her.

I'm also not quite sure what Penny is not being told, becuase it appears to me that Penny already knows...

Still, this is currently free on Amazon if you'd like to give it a go.
