Faking It by Portia MacIntosh
The perfect house, the perfect husband and the perfect life... or is she just faking it? Life has been a bit of a rollercoaster for Ella. Growing up as the 'less successful' identical twin to her 'perfectly successful' sister, Emma, has left her feeling isolated, inadequate and let's face it... a little bitter. When Emma unexpectedly reaches out to Ella in a time of need, Ella suddenly finds herself with the opportunity to fill in for her sister and experience how the other half live. But as Ella navigates the world of gossiping mothers, rebellious teens and trying to play the model housewife (not to mention avoiding the temptation of attractive men at the school gates...) will she discover that all is not always as it seems on the other side?
The time of need referred to in the blurb is a bit of belief suspense, especially with the caveat Ella is given (no, I'm not going to give anything away), but isn't most fiction? So I went with it and simply let the story wash over me.
Ella certainly is bitter and more than a little irresistible and immature at the start of the novel, but as the book unfolds, the reader can see her develop and come into her own. The circumstance alone gives rise to hilarity, without adding Ella's personality into the mix, and the whole thing leads to a funny read that will take you out of real life for a few hours.
Didn't see the twist coming, either!
About the Author
Portia MacIntosh has been 'making stuff up' for as long as she can remember - or so she says. Whether it was blaming her siblings for that broken vase when she was growing up, blagging her way backstage during her rock chick phase or, most recently, whatever justification she can fabricate to explain away those lunchtime cocktails, Portia just loves telling tales.
After years working as a music journalist, Portia decided it was time to use her powers for good and started writing novels instead.
Bestseller Portia writes hilarious, sexy romcoms, drawing on her real life experiences.
