O.M.G. We have a PUPPY!!!
Yes, I know I'm shouting, but I'm so excited. Regular readers will know that I lost my darling little Westie, Millie, (her of Sunshine at Cherry Tree Farm fame) three years ago. Bless her, she was fourteen and had lived a pretty good life, and was healthy and active right up until the end.
We said, "no more dogs". We said, "they're a tie". We said, "no muddy paws, no having to walk in the pouring rain, or in the dark.".
And for a while, being dogless suited us. To be honest, I don't think I was emotionally ready to give my heart to another doggo. But then, Daughter bought a house of her own, and I grew steadily plumper and more unfit. Nothing to do with Daughter's new house, you unsterstand - everything to do with sitting at a computer all day and not getting enough (any) exercise. Besides, the house was empty without a dog in it, and walks weren't half as much fun.
So, welcome Poppy - an eleven week old cocker spaniel, poodle cross, with the most beautiful golden coat and reserved expression. Hubby picked her and fell in love instantly! The reason behind the cross-bread we chose had nothing to do with designer dogs, and everything to do with me having grown up with cockers and absolutely loving them, and Hubby's hair phobia. yes, really. He hates shed hair. I'm not all that sure he likes the stuff growing out of the top of my head, but it's staying, so that's that! Anyway, Millie hardly shed at all, and one of the criteria for welcoming another dog into our home was that we minimised the risk of him choking on a hair.
Poppy doesn't shed at the moment, but even if she does he's so besotted with her it won't make a scrap of difference. She's also timid and shy and petrified of these strange people and this strange house. Bless her, it's going to take her a while to settle it, but she'll have all the love she needs.
Ok, I'm off to do some serious puppy-cuddling. I might be gone for some time!
