Romance readers adore novels set in cosy tea shops!
There's something quintessentially British about a cup of tea, a slice of cake and a good book. Any one of these on its own is pretty darned good, but together they are a perfect combination - which may be why I wanted to set a novel in a tea shop.
The Tanglewood Tea Shop follows the story of London patisserie chef Stevie, who moves to a sleepy village on the English/Welsh border to open a tea shop after receiving an inheritance from her aunt. The tea shop in the story is loosely based on a quaint little cafe I love to frequent whenever I visit the market town of Abergavenny. It has a marvellous selection of specialty and herbal teas, mostly loose and served in china tea pots and mismatched cups and saucers. Not only that, but the cake selection is also outstanding. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming, and I hope I've managed to recreate this in Tanglewood's very own tea shop as a celebration of the hundreds, if not thousands, of cafes that are in abundance all over the UK, where drinking tea with friends is both a ritual and a comfort.
Tea shops, especially nestled in quaint villages, are perfect backdrops for heartfelt romances, character growth, and warm escapes. They don’t just offer a story - they invite readers to emotionally recharge and offer a comforting retreat away from the chaos of everyday life.
With over 18,000 Amazon reviews on Amazon alone, The Tanglewood Tea Shop stands out as a beloved favourite, and I'm so grateful and amazed that readers love it so much. Here are some more uplifting, tea-shop-themed romances that offer comfort and cozy charm:
